In Colombia, inDrive recently released a safety report, drawing on people’s perception of safety in digital mobility across the country.  Conducted by Cifras y Conceptos S.A., the report spans Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, and Bucaramanga, and asked 1,516 passengers and drivers for their views on aspects of the industry.

Here are just some of the findings:

  • Digital mobility is now central to how Colombians move. According to figures from Alianza In, in 2024 more than 21.5 million people used mobility services through apps in Colombia, while the platforms registered more than 1.28 million driver accounts that had provided at least one service.
  • Platforms are part of everyday life. 73% of drivers use them daily; 35% of passengers, several times a week.
  • Tech builds trust. 55% of passengers rate platform safety tools as “very good”;  with  monitoring, geolocation, and route-sharing doing the most to boost confidence.
  • Verification matters. Drivers trust platforms more when passenger identity is validated (63%). Similarly, passengers rely heavily on transparent information and look out for drivers with strong ratings.

However, there are still issues that concern passengers and drivers. Crime is the most pressing concern:  of the drivers surveyed, 48 reported experiencing situations that have affected their sense of security, such as robbery or theft.  Passengers also reported this as the main risk they worried about when using mobility platforms.

This perception, in turn, affects their behavior: 74% of drivers and 29% of passengers avoid certain areas and try not to travel during early morning or at night.

To combat these issues, drivers and passengers both want stronger filters, better reporting channels, and — above all — more police presence.

Where to next?

The safety report shows that in Colombia, technology has laid the foundation for greater trust in urban mobility.  Now, the industry must continue to modernize and improve its practices for the benefit of all users, both passengers and drivers.

The report provides a roadmap and calls for mobility platforms to collaborate with authorities and citizens to shape a future where the promise of safety becomes a solid, reliable, and lasting reality for Colombia.
